Dividers

Dividers are an easy way to keep track of the contents of your planner and section them out from each other, making things easier to find, and using your planner a lot easier.

Most new planners come with a set of inserts, Filofax and Paperchase both include the current years diary, notepaper and an a-z phone section among others along with a set of dividers, sometimes they are labelled for each section and other times they are blank.  The blank ones give you better placement options for your sections, what sections you use and how you want them to be labelled.

The other thing, aside from the practical aspect, that I like about dividers is that switching them about and using either pre-made or making your own style dividers is one of the easiest ways to personalize and really make your planner your own.  There are lots of people over on etsy that make dividers for all sorts of planners, from Filofax to Kiki K, to Happy Planner, the easiest way to find what you are looking for is to be specific in your search terms, for example, if I was browsing etsy for dividers for my planner I would search “filofax personal sized dividers” which will  bring up so many search results, the trick now is to narrow down your search field by, for example adding “glitter” or “rainbow” or “cartoon” between the words “sized” and “dividers”.  Knowing the broad terms for the style you are looking for really helps.

Alternatively, you could make your own, which I will be showing you in my Planner Makes series on Monday 20th February!

What dividers do you use and what categories do they mark in your planner?

Latest Stationery Purchases

Welcome back to the latest installment of the Planner Girls Collective posts!  This is my fifth post in collaboration with Planner Girls Collective – a group of like minded planner girls who will be blogging each week on the same subject and then linking to each others posts afterwards.  Today topic is “Latest Stationery Purchases”.

img_9498

These are most of my latest stationery purchases (aside from the weekly kits that I have already used which can be found on my Weekly Spread posts)  I am including my purchases from January until now as some weeks I don’t really buy anything stationery related!

So, a little walk thorough of the items as individuals…

This is my blog post diary that I bought in WHSmith between Christmas and the new year.  I had been looking for a separate diary to log all my posts in away from my Filofax and this, so far, has been the perfect choice.  I have pretty much planned out all the topics I want to write about for the year and scheduled them into the diary so I can see where I am and what topics I am writing about.  The format is a week to a page, so when open I can see 2 weeks at a time that I find really handy for forward planning and writing.  The size and shape of this are perfect too, not too big or small with enough room to keep track of this blog and my other blog.  I can fit this into my bag and it comes everywhere with me.  One fab feature of this is that it has a plastic removable book cover to help keep it clean and nice looking.

This is yet another diary of sorts that I purchased in B&M Bargains.  It has little illustrations running through it that you can color in.  It has a week on 2 page (WO2P) format and I use this as a gratitude diary.  I keep this on my bedside cabinet and the design and size help it to not be noticed as a diary or anything…(although now the world knows that its my diary lol!)  Its small enough not to get in the way and pretty enough to sit on show.

My Parker IM matching pens (which I wrote about here )  were a kind of indulgent purchase (as in I could probably have bought a cheaper pen…) The fountain pen was to be a replacement for my favorite one that my dog chewed up before Christmas…cut a long story sort…I bought what I thought was a fountain pen in a sale and it turned out I’d bought a rollerball so bought the fountain pen to match online.  I’m really happy with both of these pens and I think they have to take the crown as my best purchases so far!

My baby blue Rapesco 6 hole, adjustable punch!  I originally bought this from amazon, waited ages for it to be sent only for it to get lost in the post so I was a bit upset about that.  I then ordered another one from good old eBay and it turned up within 2 days…I don’t really know why I didn’t buy one prior to this as I have been using a single hole punch which wasn’t the best, and unless you had a proper punch guide it was really hard to get the holes straight, in the right pace or neat…this is a game changer!  And the color is sooo pretty too!

Stickers and weekly kits!!!!!  I don’t think a week goes by where I am not looking at or buying planner stickers and kits!  Aside from those I have already used these are my latest purchases!  I bought functional bins and re-cycling ones from DookPlookDesigns which are the perfect size for my personal Filofax Malden and weekly kits from Filofabulouss and Oodlemadoodles and this weeks kit from KayeLimePie.

And last, but not least, I treated myself to some new tiny post it notes from The Range 🙂

This Weeks Spread (for week 6th – 12th Feb)

img_9492

This weeks spread was purchased from KayeLimePie over on etsy and the little recycle bins were purchased from DookPlookDesigns.  The kit had been sat in my cart for a while and I finally purchased it after my pay day in January.  I really love it and chose to use it for the week that my Mum has her birthday in (the colors and patterns Kaye has used in this design remind me of my Mum <3) The mis-matched but totally fit together patterns are lovely and the peacocks are lovely teamed with the feather decorative stickers.  I cant wait to start planning out my week on it!  🙂  And can I just point out that the turquoise in the stickers pretty much perfectly matches the blue of my Kingfisher Malden Filofax!!!

Here’s how my last week ended up looking (see here for the full details)

This Weeks Spread (for week 30th Jan -5th Feb)

img_9427

This week’s spread is from Oodlemadoodles on etsy and the kit I chose to purchase is “Winters Keeper“.  I have only just discovered Oodlemadoodles shop whilst browsing UK based sellers and I’m pretty much in love with each of the kits that shop owner Grace has designed (and have made several purchases since!!!).  I chose Winters Keeper for this weeks spread as I love owls and we have had some pretty chilly weather and a few mornings of frost here this past week, also I really love the grey and white hues that have been chosen for the other parts of this kit.  the stickers themselves are really lovely quality and I was able to peel and restick a couple with ease (my alignment was out on a couple of the heart list flags).  I chose the matt option which feel very soft and almost dusty (but not in a dirty or bad way!) and so far have been easy to write plans on to!  The kit had lots of extra stickers, like the tiny book arrow (bottom of page on left), meal plan stickers along with cute matching decorative owl and flower stickers.  I added one extra sticker from DookPlookDesigns – the little pastel blue recycle bin in Tuesday’s section which is the perfect size for my personal week on two page spread!

Here’s a look at the end of last weeks spread…

The kit I used is from another favorite store – Filofabulouss and you can find more info here.

The planner I am using is a Filofax Malden personal sized in Kingfisher Blue!

What is your week looking like?  Are there any kits which you would recommend?

Shop Additions

I run a shop over on Etsy selling planner charms that I make.  I started the shop back in November and have decided that part of my new blog series will be “Shop Additions” where I can showcase what I’m making for my shop and things that are finished and will soon be for sale.  I thought this would give you guys a chance to see behind the scenes, see items before anyone else and get to tell me your thoughts!

So without further ado, this is what I have been up to …

img_9398

This is how my equipment and pieces looked last night, I seem to work best when I can see the things that inspire me and have some kind of thought process into what I am making – I need all the “ingredients” on display!

These are finished items.  They are heart shaped lockets that are decorated to look like Angel Wings are wrapped around them.  I will be stocking all 3 of these in my shop.  They are decorated with different colored stars.

The other charms I made are a peace sign on a shell disc, a resin heart with dried flower and foliage in it and a charm with a load of brass toned jingle bells on it.

I’m playing around with the idea of customzation, firstly in allowing customers to select whether they would like an initial added to the charm to make it more personal and secondly, adding and option where customers can choose to change the planner attachment to either a key ring or clip to make the charm into a bag charm.  All I need to really do now is to photograph these properly and work out how to add them to my shop!

If you would like to see finished items then please visit my shop on etsy which can be found either by going to etsy.com and searching for PlannerMontannah , or typing into the search bar http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Plannermontannah?ref=hdr_shop_menu or clicking here

I’d love to hear your thoughts on my planner charms!

Diary Inserts – Day to a Page

When I first had a planner (way back when I started my first full time job) I used the pages that came with it to record all my appointments and important information (week on one page) which was fine at the time as I’d transitioned from a teeny pocket diary the previous year. Once the year was out though, I had to buy new diary pages and got, well, a wee bit overwhelmed by the choice of formats out there. When deciding on the format and running of this years posts I decided it would be fun to explore the different types of diary inserts out there and hopefully save a lot of others being baffled to!  So, today I’m going to talk about Day to a Page (or D2AP) inserts.

Day to a page diary inserts are literally that, one day covers one page. And this format is available in all sizes for your planner.  I used to use day to a page inserts when I was running between 2 jobs, college and university as I had enough space to write down all my plans and other notes too, such as shopping lists, reminders and meal plans.  The space was enough to record each part of my day and any homeworks I was given as well. And, I could see at a glance my plans for the following day.

This type of insert is brilliant if you are busy, have a lot of things to do or reminders or if you have a family and need the extra space to write any family reminders down.

There are several other uses for Day to a Page inserts such as for using as a diary or journal, a day to day scrapbook or art journal, daily story writing, poems, the list goes on and on, the only limits are your mind and creativity!

Filofax do a range of day to a page inserts which I love for their simple design. The paper quality is ok but you may get some shadowing of ink through the page if you are not careful.

Paperchase is another favourite for  inserts. The paper quality seems a bit better than Filofax which is surprising to me.

And a hunt around on Etsy will come up with some lovely, well designed day to a page inserts for you to purchase and print yourself at home.

Let me know if you use Day to a Page inserts and what you use them for in the comments section below!!! I’m really interested in hearing about new ways of using your diary pages!

Hope you are having a good Bank Holiday!!!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to my planner blog!  I have been away from the blog for quite some time, I have been thinking about the direction I want to take the blog in and working on a schedule of posts that I will be sharing through 2017.  The way I write my posts has changed and whereas I used to write a post as it popped into my head, I have now devised a calendar that makes sense, meaning that I will be posting more regularly, always have a topic to write about and have some structure to work with.  I feel that the way I used to post was a bit hap hazardous and I always seemed to struggle with topics to write about when thinking/writing off the cuff.

2017 will see me returning to blog more regularly, I am aiming to blog here around 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) on various topics and on a Sunday I shall be sharing the following weeks spread.  I will be sharing my set-up, loves, products and a whole host of other subjects all planner related!

Even though I have not been blogging regularly I have still been using my planner, recently switching from my personal pink Classic Filofax to a new (Birthday present from the Boy!) Filofax Malden personal in Kingfisher Blue! I have also set up a planner related Instagram where I have been sharing planner related images.  You can find my plannergram over at @plannermontannah,

The other TWO, yes, two big things I have worked on are getting this site set up as a dot.com (see the address bar above!!!!  J) and I have also set up an etsy store!  I have been busy making planner charms, photographing and listing them and they can be viewed over at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Plannermontannah?ref=search_shop_redirect , I will be adding more to the store as time goes on!  I have a few plans for things I would like to make and ideas of expanding the selection to include other planner related goodies along with my planner charms!

Inserts, Charms and more

Following on from my research post (here) I have been busy designing some monthly inserts for people to print out at home.

I have focused, so far, on A5 sized inserts as my research showed that A5 was one of the most popular sizes of planners and lots of people seem to own one.  I came up with the following layouts…

May 2015 overview

Notes with Appointments section to the right.

This is how the page will look in the planner and is one of the layouts that I use in mine.  I find having appointments to the right makes it easy for me to glance at and schedule items in easily, and having a notes section to the left is handy for writing down all manner of things.  I use the notes section to jot down reminders, things I need to do, phone numbers, information I may only need once (but may come in handy in the future!), shopping lists, a doodle page, day-to-day notes, as a traditional diary page  and to write down any ideas I may have!  There are so many uses for this page and it is good for those who have lots of things going on and whose routine is different from day-to-day and may not fit into regimented sections.

Appts notes tasks food tracker A5 Overview_edited-1

Notes, Tasks, Appointments and Meal Planner/Food Log.

This set of inserts was designed with the busy person in mind!  As above this is how the page will look in the planner, appointments and meal planner/food log to the right and notes and tasks to the left.  I decided to place the meal planner/food log to the right as it can be seen easily.  I chose to include a meal planner/food log as I know from experience, being busy can impact on food and meals, this section gives the user the opportunity to plan meals in advance, so they can see from day-to-day what they are going to be eating, helping them to plan what items they need to buy and acts to save time of an evening thinking about what to eat.  This section can also be used as a daily food log, for those that are conscious of what they are eating and how many calories they consume in a day, which could help with weight management and health.   I included a notes section as having space to write information down is always handy and often, you don’t want to clog up the appointments section with notes making appointments less likely to be seen.  I also included a tasks section as I have found it handy to have a space to jot down tasks as they pop up, whether they be work, college, uni or home related, it is useful to write these down so you can act upon them as needed and they are then not forgotten.

D2AP Family Inserts with Appts Tasks Meal Planner Dont forget and Birthday reminder section OverviewFamily Time Planner

I designed this insert (as above, this is how it will look in the planner) with busy families in mind.  I kept the appointments section and added a column for parents and children which the user can then divide down further depending on how many children they have, so that items such as swimming, parents evening, other activities can be recorded and seen at a glance.  I placed a birthday’s reminder at the top, as it can be easy to forget friends, and children’s friends upcoming birthdays, I felt that by having it at the top of the page, above the date, that it can be seen more clearly.  I also kept in the meal planner and calories section as it is a useful tool for parents to utilize.  I also kept in the tasks section, moving it to the top of the left hand page, as again, I feel that it is useful in day-to-day life.  I also added a Don’t Forget section at the bottom of the page, useful for writing down things like shopping that needs to be bought, packing up the children’s PE kits for the next day, writing a reminder to book the car in for MOT or to call the doctor to book an appointment, anything that may need to be done but doesn’t fall into any other category.

All of these inserts are now available to buy in my etsy store https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PlannerSpirit  in May to December 2015 at a cost of £12 and also in monthly bundles for £2.00 per month, so you can try a different layout each month if you wish, or just try them for a month to see if you like them!

The inserts all need to be printed on A4 paper, double-sided, then cut in half and punched according to your binder ring spacing.  I use an old insert to line my holes up for punching!  This means that all my inserts will fit your binder, regardless of make, so long as it is A5 in size!

The inserts are all available with black text but I can customize the text color to match your planner, just drop me a message on my store and I shall change it for you at no extra cost!
