This Weeks Spread (for week 20 – 26th Feb)

This weeks spread uses a kit from Oodlemadoodles called Unicorn Dreams which I fell in love with a short while ago!  I bought the kit and it came super fast, it is lovely, the colors are bright and the Unicorn is the cutest!  I think this might be my all time favorite spread so far!

Thoughts – February

I have really surprised myself, normally by now I would be having layout and planner envy and wishing that I had set up my planner in a different way or be wanting to introduce something else into my planner to “try”, but this has not happened yet…. Maybe I have found the elusive “Planner Peace” finally?

I am still enjoying decorating my pages and filling in my plans week to week, the only tweak I have made is the addition of tiny post-its which I write future plans on and date before sticking to the relevant day if the week has not yet been decorated.

I have been using Oodlemadoodles kits for a short while and I am loving the inclusion of the meal plan stickers (little circles with knife and fork motif’s) which have been helping me to plan my meals (and shopping lists).  I am usually a really lousy meal planner and just grab something and go , and while this has worked in some ways, in others it hasn’t (like it can be a pretty unhealthy way to eat…) so meal planning is something new but is helping me diet wise and also time wise – less faffing around and thinking about what to have, and it’s something I think I may just stick with planner wise!

Here’s a look back at the last few weeks layouts..

Page Decoration

There are so many different ways to personalize your planner but one of the easiest ways to make it truly yours is to start by personalizing the pages that you will probably use most – your diary inserts. It doesn’t matter which format you use or what size but there is something nice about putting your own mark onto your pages. There are lots of different ways of making the pages truly yours form doodling around the edges, color coding your notes, functional stickers to mark bin days and household routines to full blown weekly sticker kits, washi edges or delicate calligraphic writing, the choice (as they say) is yours.

I started out decorating my pages a few years ago, at the time I was using day to a page format in my Personal Pink Filofax Classic, with a washi strip at the top and bottom of the pages, using the same washi for each day of that week before changing to a different washi the following week. I made the mistake of decorating all the pages like this for the year in pretty much one sitting so I didn’t really have anything to think about or look forward to week to week decorating wise. I then switched to an A5 Paperchase planner which had week on 2 pages inserts that I started to decorate with stickers and washi, I loved the space and the format but the planner was a little too big to lug around daily in all honesty.

Now I am in a personal sized Kingfisher Blue Filofax Malden and using WO2P inserts again. I decided to use weekly kits to decorate for this year and have so far loved each week in my planner. I decorate my pages on a Sunday and share the images to my Instagram (@plannermontannah). I find decorating for the week ahead to be really therapeutic and it gives me something to look forward to each week, and there is something really nice about looking through your weeks and seeing how each one changes and differs.

This Weeks Spread (for week 13th -19th Feb)

img_9540

This weeks spread is using a kit by Oodlemadoodles called Foxy Love.  I chose this kit as it incorporates hearts and cute foxes and is perfect for Valentines day/week as its not too obviously Valentines.  I really like the zigzag and stripe prints and the orange and pink tones.  I decided to rotate the box stickers by 90 degrees so they fit better within the day spaces – I think I am going to use these to write my day to day chores in.

Dividers

Dividers are an easy way to keep track of the contents of your planner and section them out from each other, making things easier to find, and using your planner a lot easier.

Most new planners come with a set of inserts, Filofax and Paperchase both include the current years diary, notepaper and an a-z phone section among others along with a set of dividers, sometimes they are labelled for each section and other times they are blank.  The blank ones give you better placement options for your sections, what sections you use and how you want them to be labelled.

The other thing, aside from the practical aspect, that I like about dividers is that switching them about and using either pre-made or making your own style dividers is one of the easiest ways to personalize and really make your planner your own.  There are lots of people over on etsy that make dividers for all sorts of planners, from Filofax to Kiki K, to Happy Planner, the easiest way to find what you are looking for is to be specific in your search terms, for example, if I was browsing etsy for dividers for my planner I would search “filofax personal sized dividers” which will  bring up so many search results, the trick now is to narrow down your search field by, for example adding “glitter” or “rainbow” or “cartoon” between the words “sized” and “dividers”.  Knowing the broad terms for the style you are looking for really helps.

Alternatively, you could make your own, which I will be showing you in my Planner Makes series on Monday 20th February!

What dividers do you use and what categories do they mark in your planner?

Latest Stationery Purchases

Welcome back to the latest installment of the Planner Girls Collective posts!  This is my fifth post in collaboration with Planner Girls Collective – a group of like minded planner girls who will be blogging each week on the same subject and then linking to each others posts afterwards.  Today topic is “Latest Stationery Purchases”.

img_9498

These are most of my latest stationery purchases (aside from the weekly kits that I have already used which can be found on my Weekly Spread posts)  I am including my purchases from January until now as some weeks I don’t really buy anything stationery related!

So, a little walk thorough of the items as individuals…

img_9499

This is my blog post diary that I bought in WHSmith between Christmas and the new year.  I had been looking for a separate diary to log all my posts in away from my Filofax and this, so far, has been the perfect choice.  I have pretty much planned out all the topics I want to write about for the year and scheduled them into the diary so I can see where I am and what topics I am writing about.  The format is a week to a page, so when open I can see 2 weeks at a time that I find really handy for forward planning and writing.  The size and shape of this are perfect too, not too big or small with enough room to keep track of this blog and my other blog.  I can fit this into my bag and it comes everywhere with me.  One fab feature of this is that it has a plastic removable book cover to help keep it clean and nice looking.

img_9500

This is yet another diary of sorts that I purchased in B&M Bargains.  It has little illustrations running through it that you can color in.  It has a week on 2 page (WO2P) format and I use this as a gratitude diary.  I keep this on my bedside cabinet and the design and size help it to not be noticed as a diary or anything…(although now the world knows that its my diary lol!)  Its small enough not to get in the way and pretty enough to sit on show.

My Parker IM matching pens (which I wrote about here )  were a kind of indulgent purchase (as in I could probably have bought a cheaper pen…) The fountain pen was to be a replacement for my favorite one that my dog chewed up before Christmas…cut a long story sort…I bought what I thought was a fountain pen in a sale and it turned out I’d bought a rollerball so bought the fountain pen to match online.  I’m really happy with both of these pens and I think they have to take the crown as my best purchases so far!

img_9515

My baby blue Rapesco 6 hole, adjustable punch!  I originally bought this from amazon, waited ages for it to be sent only for it to get lost in the post so I was a bit upset about that.  I then ordered another one from good old eBay and it turned up within 2 days…I don’t really know why I didn’t buy one prior to this as I have been using a single hole punch which wasn’t the best, and unless you had a proper punch guide it was really hard to get the holes straight, in the right pace or neat…this is a game changer!  And the color is sooo pretty too!

Stickers and weekly kits!!!!!  I don’t think a week goes by where I am not looking at or buying planner stickers and kits!  Aside from those I have already used these are my latest purchases!  I bought functional bins and re-cycling ones from DookPlookDesigns which are the perfect size for my personal Filofax Malden and weekly kits from Filofabulouss and Oodlemadoodles and this weeks kit from KayeLimePie.

And last, but not least, I treated myself to some new tiny post it notes from The Range 🙂

This Weeks Spread (for week 6th – 12th Feb)

img_9492

This weeks spread was purchased from KayeLimePie over on etsy and the little recycle bins were purchased from DookPlookDesigns.  The kit had been sat in my cart for a while and I finally purchased it after my pay day in January.  I really love it and chose to use it for the week that my Mum has her birthday in (the colors and patterns Kaye has used in this design remind me of my Mum <3) The mis-matched but totally fit together patterns are lovely and the peacocks are lovely teamed with the feather decorative stickers.  I cant wait to start planning out my week on it!  🙂  And can I just point out that the turquoise in the stickers pretty much perfectly matches the blue of my Kingfisher Malden Filofax!!!

Here’s how my last week ended up looking (see here for the full details)

Tracker

Today’s post will show you how to set up a tracker for your planner.

You will need paper inserts, whether they are lined, plain or quadrille the choice is up to you, pens, a ruler (possibly) and something to track!

 img_9455

I chose quadrille paper to track my social media and blog posts on and at the top I wrote in the Month and Year.  I then decided on my placement for what I was tracking and shortened them down into short form code – PW = Post Written, PS = Post Shared, FB = Facebook, I1/I2/I3 = Instagram Accounts 1,2 &3 (I1 is my planner instagram (@plannermontannah), I2 is my steps Instagram and I3 is my personal instagram).  I keep meaning to add 2 further columns PW2 and PS2 (for my other blog that I run) but I haven’t got around to that yet…

img_9454

If you are using blank paper or lined paper it is worth sketching out your layout on a spare sheet before committing to it permanently – work out your columns and lines and what sort of spacing you need, where your headings and categories are going to be placed and play around until you are happy with the layout, then you can draw it out on the sheets you will be using.

Marking off your data as you complete the item can be done in so many different ways, I mark mine by coloring in the box but you can use stickers, ticks, crosses, emoji’s, whatever you choose.  You can include color coding, like in the image below (that I found on pinterest – just search Year In Pixels for other related images) has on her emotions tracker, where certain colors are matched to certain things or, like me (being lazy) opt for one color…

Tracker

My planner is used to track all manner of things, from meetings and appointments to thoughts and ideas but the kind of tracking I am referring to here is more specific and focuses on one action daily.

img_9457

(Hydrate stickers from a weekly layout kit by Filofabulouss that I purchased and used a week ago!)

Things you can track are vast and numerous, I tend to track my liquid intake (hydration) each day and have a section tracking my social media posts (more on that later!).  I have seen people track weight, steps, activity levels, sleep, periods, car mileage, food and calories, spending and saving, mood…the list is endless.  So how do you track these things?

There are many ways to track things, from little stickers to stamps, codes and symbols to your very own personally designed tracker.  I love these stickers from Plannerface that have a blank section for you to write in what you are tracking.  I like that you can use these as daily stickers, sticking them in each day section of your spread, or to track something weekly by placing them at the beginning of your weekly spread, (or at the end!), and you can choose different color ones for different purposes such as blue for water intake, red for medication or what not.  I also really love the stamp range from StudioL2E as they have a few different stamps that can be used as tracking markers. I was lucky enough to be given these by a friend (see below)

Instead of using stickers or stamps to track things, I have seen people use color coding as a way of tracking things, from little blue dashes along the day section (for water intake) to other colored dashes or dots to mark different things.  I have also seen people use symbols for tracking as well, from circles to indicate that a tablet has been taken to a pink tear shape to mark the first day of a period.  There is no right or wrong way to track things and like a lot of other planner related things it is about finding a system that works for you and that you utilize it.

What do you keep track of in your planner?  How do you track things?

I spoke above about tracking my social media posts and making your own tracker.  I couldn’t find anything suitable to track my social media posts, as I wanted to track posts that had been written, posts that had been blogged and then shared on social media.  I will  be showing you in Fridays post how to set up your own tracking system, so please visit again then!

Speak to you all on Friday!!!
