Planner Personalization

I wish someone had told me, way back when I first had a planner, that you could customize and personalize it and really make it your own.  In high school I had a green and tan Collins binder system that could have done with something to make it feel properly like mine.  Back then, and probably for much of my time in a planner, I have not really thought any more of personalizing it than writing my details onto the information sheet and placing it behind the clear plastic fly leaf.

I was the sort of girl who would buy her diary inserts off the shelf and just use them to write everyday things down on, I would use the dividers that came with the binder until they fell apart then go and buy more and I would write in what ever color pen was available.

Roll forward a few years and I have personalized my planner to perfection – well, perfect for me!

This series will give you hints and tips, things to try, and other ways of personalizing your planner to match your style and personality.

The first of this series will be posted on 13th February so come back then to see how you can personalize yours!

Inspirational Quotes

pgcinspirationalquotes

This is my second post in collaboration with Planner Girls Collective – a group of like minded planner girls who will be blogging each week on the same subject and then linking to each others posts afterwards.

This weeks Planner Girls Collective post is about inspirational quotes.  At first I didn’t think I really had any quotes to share apart from my secondary dashboard that used to reside in my Temperley for Filofax Ikat Compact wallet and now lives behind my main dashboard and separates my information sheet from the rest of my planner inserts.

img_9360

This is an Oscar Wilde quote which I have loved for years and found in a Tiffany Jewellery catalogue in 2015.  I cut it out and punched it and it has happily sat behind a clear dashboard in my Temperley for the past year.  I  moved it over to my Filofax Malden in Kingfisher blue when I set it up, the color almost matches!  This quote reminds me to embrace my creative side and either be a creative being and make my life a beautiful place – “be a work of art”, or dress creatively and embrace the quirky fashion sense and accessories that I like “wear a work of art” and to never be afraid to be unique.

I have a diary that I bought for planning my blog posts that has this on the front of it

img_9361

which always makes me smile.  I didn’t really make any resolutions at the beginning of the year but evaluated what I love doing and how I could be better at that, and blogging was one of them.  I currently run 2 blogs that are active (this one and https://tenthousandsteps2016.wordpress.com ) and decided that I wanted to blog more regularly and this diary was chosen for that front!  It reminds me that in order to succeed I need to plan, and to plan I need to write down and schedule things!  This diary has a schedule of all my blog posts mapped out for the whole year and, so far, I am sticking to that schedule!

Other quotes that I find inspirational are

img_9332-1

This quote reminds me that the whole earth is alive and that the trees and plant life are at the very heart of this life – they provide our oxygen and without them then we would ease to exist.  It puts everything into perspective for me, and sometimes, when everything gets too much, a walk into the woodland can realign my thoughts and calm me.

img_9362

This quote is just a reminder that whatever bad happens, it can be the best thing to happen sometimes.  We learn from bad things and grow and that can make us better people and change our perspective, our attitude and our outlook.

img_9364

This quote is really relevant as I spend so much time worrying about materialistic things – money, objects, jobs, etc…it reminds me to let go, stop worrying and start living in the moment, don’t catastrophize, and stop wasting energy and time on insignificant things.

img_9363

This last quote is one of my favorites, I spent so much time last year just sorting, re-arranging and caring for belongings that are no more than objects.  This year I am trying to minimize my belongings and stop wasting time organizing them and not using or utilizing them which will give me more time to enjoy my home, friends, family and hobbies!

If you have enjoyed this post then check out the rest of the Planner Girl Collectives posts linked below…. And don’t forget to check back next Monday for the next Planner Girls Collective post!

This Weeks Spread (for week 16 -22nd Jan)

This weeks spread is decorated using a kit from Kaye Lime Pie on Etsy.  I ordered this kit a while ago as it caught my eye with its bright fun colours and cute stationery theme.  The day/date cover up stickers are by Filofabulouss.  I chose the cover up stickers as they seemed to go well with the kit and I don’t like all the information next to the date that came printed on my inserts (Filofax cotton cream in Personal sized) and these worked perfectly to cover that information up!

So, here’s my spread for the week!!!

Here’s the end of last weeks spread for you to see, you can find the post relating to this spread here

Don’t forget that I can be found on Instagram and Etsy !!!

Hope you have a lovely week!!! xoxox

New Products – Pens

Another new series for the blog!  This series will look at any new products I have bought and give mini reviews and, in this case, a back story!  I decided to write this series as I often like buying and trying new products that come out onto the market and thought this might be useful for others to read!

Back in December, not long before Christmas, I had left my favorite fountain pen on my coffee table after writing some Christmas cards, I went out to do some shopping and didn’t think any more about my pen thinking it would be safe at home.  I’d made the fatal mistake of leaving my dog loose in the house (she normally stays in the kitchen when I go out somewhere…), asleep on the sofa.  I got home later, not even 2 hours had gone by since I had left to an inky mess on my sofa and a guilty looking dog 😦 it seems that she got bored and decided that my pen looked like a good way to keep herself entertained.  To be fair, it wasn’t an expensive pen, it was clear plastic which I loved as you could see how much ink was left in the cartridge, and it was one of the only fountain pens that I had which wrote on pretty much any type of paper without skipping or catching, the ink always flowed nice and my writing looked so much better when I wrote with it.  I was pretty devastated.

Roll on to Christmas, I was gifted some money to get myself something nice and I knew what I was going to get – a new fountain pen.  I headed into town one day after Christmas and visited WHSmith firstly.  I looked at the range of pens in my price range (£20) but couldn’t find anything that I liked or that fit with my criteria – it had to be metal, have a bit of weight about it and have a finish which I wanted (something metallic).  I liked the Lamy Safari but it looked a bit plastic for my liking and the color ways that were available were not great, plus just about everyone has one.  I did sneak a peek at the Parker pens but the only one in my price range was the Vector which I already own in purple.

I then visited my local Ryman store and found a Parker IM in Esspresso with a sale sticker marking it down from nearly £40 to £20 as it didn’t have a cartridge in the box.  I snapped it up as it ticked all the boxes of what I wanted in a fountain pen and grabbed some cartridges at the same time.  I got in the car and decided to get it running and try it out but when I opened the box I found that it was a roller ball body and not a fountain pen.  I didn’t mind too much but was a bit disappointed that I’d now have to buy a refill for it so I could use it.  I ordered some online and decided to have a look at fountain pens online while I was at it.  I found a matching fountain pen online for £17 which I ordered!

I was still a bit sad about not having a new pen to use that day, however, when collapsing the packaging down to recycle it, I found the roller ball cartridge in the presentation box that comes with the pen!

So now I have a matching set of Parker IM pens, and I honestly love them both!  I’m using a black Parker 0.5mm roller ball refill in the one and in the other I have a blue Quink ink cartridge!  Both write really well and have the weight I was looking for, are both really well made and sturdy, and they look good clipped to the pen loop of my Malden!  There seem to be no bleed issues or shadowing issues through the cotton cream Filofax inserts that I am using either, so its an all round winner!

This Weeks Spread (for week 9 – 15th Jan 2017)

img_9336

This week I chose to decorate my pages with a kit from Filofabulouss and a few stickers from a sheet by Little Rainbow Moon (the arrows on Wednesday and Sunday) which complement the feathers theme perfectly!  I have added re-cycle and shopping trolley stickers (not sure on where from originally, I received them in a RAK) to remind myself when the recycling is due out and to mark my shopping days!

For inspiration check out the hash tags #spreademwidesunday and #halfweekhumping on Instagram to see how others have decorated their planners!

How have you decorated your week?

Diary Inserts – Day to a Page

When I first had a planner (way back when I started my first full time job) I used the pages that came with it to record all my appointments and important information (week on one page) which was fine at the time as I’d transitioned from a teeny pocket diary the previous year. Once the year was out though, I had to buy new diary pages and got, well, a wee bit overwhelmed by the choice of formats out there. When deciding on the format and running of this years posts I decided it would be fun to explore the different types of diary inserts out there and hopefully save a lot of others being baffled to!  So, today I’m going to talk about Day to a Page (or D2AP) inserts.

Day to a page diary inserts are literally that, one day covers one page. And this format is available in all sizes for your planner.  I used to use day to a page inserts when I was running between 2 jobs, college and university as I had enough space to write down all my plans and other notes too, such as shopping lists, reminders and meal plans.  The space was enough to record each part of my day and any homeworks I was given as well. And, I could see at a glance my plans for the following day.

This type of insert is brilliant if you are busy, have a lot of things to do or reminders or if you have a family and need the extra space to write any family reminders down.

There are several other uses for Day to a Page inserts such as for using as a diary or journal, a day to day scrapbook or art journal, daily story writing, poems, the list goes on and on, the only limits are your mind and creativity!

Filofax do a range of day to a page inserts which I love for their simple design. The paper quality is ok but you may get some shadowing of ink through the page if you are not careful.

Paperchase is another favourite for  inserts. The paper quality seems a bit better than Filofax which is surprising to me.

And a hunt around on Etsy will come up with some lovely, well designed day to a page inserts for you to purchase and print yourself at home.

Let me know if you use Day to a Page inserts and what you use them for in the comments section below!!! I’m really interested in hearing about new ways of using your diary pages!

Hope you are having a good Bank Holiday!!!

Happy New Year!!!!

Welcome back to my planner blog!  I have been away from the blog for quite some time, I have been thinking about the direction I want to take the blog in and working on a schedule of posts that I will be sharing through 2017.  The way I write my posts has changed and whereas I used to write a post as it popped into my head, I have now devised a calendar that makes sense, meaning that I will be posting more regularly, always have a topic to write about and have some structure to work with.  I feel that the way I used to post was a bit hap hazardous and I always seemed to struggle with topics to write about when thinking/writing off the cuff.

2017 will see me returning to blog more regularly, I am aiming to blog here around 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) on various topics and on a Sunday I shall be sharing the following weeks spread.  I will be sharing my set-up, loves, products and a whole host of other subjects all planner related!

Even though I have not been blogging regularly I have still been using my planner, recently switching from my personal pink Classic Filofax to a new (Birthday present from the Boy!) Filofax Malden personal in Kingfisher Blue! I have also set up a planner related Instagram where I have been sharing planner related images.  You can find my plannergram over at @plannermontannah,

The other TWO, yes, two big things I have worked on are getting this site set up as a dot.com (see the address bar above!!!!) and I have also set up an etsy store!  I have been busy making planner charms, photographing and listing them and they can be viewed over at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Plannermontannah?ref=search_shop_redirect , I will be adding more to the store as time goes on!  I have a few plans for things I would like to make and ideas of expanding the selection to include other planner related goodies along with my planner charms!
