Latest Stationery Purchases

Welcome back to the latest installment of the Planner Girls Collective posts!  This is my fifth post in collaboration with Planner Girls Collective – a group of like minded planner girls who will be blogging each week on the same subject and then linking to each others posts afterwards.  Today topic is “Latest Stationery Purchases”.

These are most of my latest stationery purchases (aside from the weekly kits that I have already used which can be found on my Weekly Spread posts)  I am including my purchases from January until now as some weeks I don’t really buy anything stationery related!

So, a little walk thorough of the items as individuals…

This is my blog post diary that I bought in WHSmith between Christmas and the new year.  I had been looking for a separate diary to log all my posts in away from my Filofax and this, so far, has been the perfect choice.  I have pretty much planned out all the topics I want to write about for the year and scheduled them into the diary so I can see where I am and what topics I am writing about.  The format is a week to a page, so when open I can see 2 weeks at a time that I find really handy for forward planning and writing.  The size and shape of this are perfect too, not too big or small with enough room to keep track of this blog and my other blog.  I can fit this into my bag and it comes everywhere with me.  One fab feature of this is that it has a plastic removable book cover to help keep it clean and nice looking.

This is yet another diary of sorts that I purchased in B&M Bargains.  It has little illustrations running through it that you can color in.  It has a week on 2 page (WO2P) format and I use this as a gratitude diary.  I keep this on my bedside cabinet and the design and size help it to not be noticed as a diary or anything…(although now the world knows that its my diary lol!)  Its small enough not to get in the way and pretty enough to sit on show.

My Parker IM matching pens (which I wrote about here )  were a kind of indulgent purchase (as in I could probably have bought a cheaper pen…) The fountain pen was to be a replacement for my favorite one that my dog chewed up before Christmas…cut a long story sort…I bought what I thought was a fountain pen in a sale and it turned out I’d bought a rollerball so bought the fountain pen to match online.  I’m really happy with both of these pens and I think they have to take the crown as my best purchases so far!

My baby blue Rapesco 6 hole, adjustable punch!  I originally bought this from amazon, waited ages for it to be sent only for it to get lost in the post so I was a bit upset about that.  I then ordered another one from good old eBay and it turned up within 2 days…I don’t really know why I didn’t buy one prior to this as I have been using a single hole punch which wasn’t the best, and unless you had a proper punch guide it was really hard to get the holes straight, in the right pace or neat…this is a game changer!  And the color is sooo pretty too!

Stickers and weekly kits!!!!!  I don’t think a week goes by where I am not looking at or buying planner stickers and kits!  Aside from those I have already used these are my latest purchases!  I bought functional bins and re-cycling ones from DookPlookDesigns which are the perfect size for my personal Filofax Malden and weekly kits from Filofabulouss and Oodlemadoodles and this weeks kit from KayeLimePie.

Thoughts

I titled this series “Thoughts” as I want to be able to review how my month as gone, things I might change and things I may decide to do in the future, share lessons learned and tips and tricks that have proved useful, basically the kind of post that mulls things over and discusses things that might change on a month to month basis. So, onto my first “Thoughts” post 🙂 .

I have been using my week on 2 pages (WO2P) set up since the last week in December, that’s 4 full weeks, and I have decorated each week before adding my own notes and plans.

and I have found that I am really enjoying decorating the pages the weekend before for the week ahead.  I have been writing things down and (mostly), sticking to the plans I make.  The decoration makes me smile every time I open my planner and encourages me to utilize it everyday as a tool to keep track of things.

One thing that I found really useful (and I have attempted before but not really used them to the full capacity!) were the Hydrate stickers (that came on the weekly kit I purchased from FiloFabulouss on etsy).  I know I have not been drinking as much as I used to and this is a handy way to keep track of your hydration!  I decided rather than color in the droplet shapes I would track what I had drunk (w for water, c for coffee etc…) which I found useful.  I think I will be looking for some hydration stickers to use daily in my planner!

I will be continuing to decorate my pages, at first I wasn’t sure if I would have enough space to write and have decorations, especially switching from day to a page (that I used last year) to A5 WO2P, and then back into personal sized.  I have changed how I write and am more conscious when I put pen to paper and try to keep my writing smaller and neater than I used to (seriously, my writing when using D2AP inserts was terrible!!!)

I also tried to (on my week 2 pages!) co-ordinate my pen color to the kit but that went out of the window pretty quick and I realized that I would be having to carry around a few different pens with me, and that I preferred writing with my Parker Rollerball pen and decided to stick with that for the other spreads.  I won’t rule out using other ink colors in the future but, for the moment I think I will be using the pens I carry around with me at all times.

So, that’s about it for this months “Thoughts”.  This post should have been posted yesterday but I’ve had some computer issues which saw me spending much of my time backing everything up onto an external hard drive and getting my laptop running at full speed again!  Next months “Thought’s” will be posted on 17th February so head back then to hear my thoughts on my planner!

New Products – Pens

Another new series for the blog!  This series will look at any new products I have bought and give mini reviews and, in this case, a back story!  I decided to write this series as I often like buying and trying new products that come out onto the market and thought this might be useful for others to read!

Back in December, not long before Christmas, I had left my favorite fountain pen on my coffee table after writing some Christmas cards, I went out to do some shopping and didn’t think any more about my pen thinking it would be safe at home.  I’d made the fatal mistake of leaving my dog loose in the house (she normally stays in the kitchen when I go out somewhere…), asleep on the sofa.  I got home later, not even 2 hours had gone by since I had left to an inky mess on my sofa and a guilty looking dog 😦 it seems that she got bored and decided that my pen looked like a good way to keep herself entertained.  To be fair, it wasn’t an expensive pen, it was clear plastic which I loved as you could see how much ink was left in the cartridge, and it was one of the only fountain pens that I had which wrote on pretty much any type of paper without skipping or catching, the ink always flowed nice and my writing looked so much better when I wrote with it.  I was pretty devastated.

Roll on to Christmas, I was gifted some money to get myself something nice and I knew what I was going to get – a new fountain pen.  I headed into town one day after Christmas and visited WHSmith firstly.  I looked at the range of pens in my price range (£20) but couldn’t find anything that I liked or that fit with my criteria – it had to be metal, have a bit of weight about it and have a finish which I wanted (something metallic).  I liked the Lamy Safari but it looked a bit plastic for my liking and the color ways that were available were not great, plus just about everyone has one.  I did sneak a peek at the Parker pens but the only one in my price range was the Vector which I already own in purple.

I then visited my local Ryman store and found a Parker IM in Esspresso with a sale sticker marking it down from nearly £40 to £20 as it didn’t have a cartridge in the box.  I snapped it up as it ticked all the boxes of what I wanted in a fountain pen and grabbed some cartridges at the same time.  I got in the car and decided to get it running and try it out but when I opened the box I found that it was a roller ball body and not a fountain pen.  I didn’t mind too much but was a bit disappointed that I’d now have to buy a refill for it so I could use it.  I ordered some online and decided to have a look at fountain pens online while I was at it.  I found a matching fountain pen online for £17 which I ordered!

I was still a bit sad about not having a new pen to use that day, however, when collapsing the packaging down to recycle it, I found the roller ball cartridge in the presentation box that comes with the pen!

So now I have a matching set of Parker IM pens, and I honestly love them both!  I’m using a black Parker 0.5mm roller ball refill in the one and in the other I have a blue Quink ink cartridge!  Both write really well and have the weight I was looking for, are both really well made and sturdy, and they look good clipped to the pen loop of my Malden!  There seem to be no bleed issues or shadowing issues through the cotton cream Filofax inserts that I am using either, so its an all round winner!
